Full-Time - Permanent

This is a part-time, 10-month position.

Under the direction and supervision of the school principal and vice-principal, the Library Technician is responsible for the organization and maintenance of all aspects of the school Library Learning Commons.

Through the duties and qualifications listed below, the successful incumbent will support building cultures, environments, and practices that ensure that all students of Winnipeg School Division experience belonging, engagement and meaningful learning that will improve their life prospects and ensure they flourish in their catchment school.

Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Library Circulation and Maintenance

Processes all new materials for circulation.

Shelves and maintains collection following select classification systems, chiefly DDC.

Catalogues new items and maintains item records.

Circulates and monitors all library items (this includes watching for overdues, repairs etc.)

In collaboration with teaching staff, selects and weeds the library collection.

Performs library inventory.

Performs interlibrary loans between schools within the division.

Instructional Support

Supports students in finding information and materials, both in print and online through regular book exchange offered to students.

Demonstrates use of digital databases.

Provides Readers’ Advisory for students and staff, for example reading aloud and book talks.

In collaboration with school staff, creates book/resource lists to support classroom learning.

With support from divisional library services, informs staff and students of current copyright legislation.

Advocacy

In collaboration with teaching staff, creates meaningful book displays, bulletin boards and library programing that reflect the school community.

Serves as a liaison between the Library Learning Commons and school community (administration, staff, and students) updating them with all current information regarding new items in the library, school library trends, and school library issues.

Coordinates library activities of community volunteers and student helpers.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Library and Information Technology Diploma

Ability to lift and carry equipment and books weighing between 10 kg and to climb stools/step ladders when shelving/retrieving books.

Basic language skills in any of the following languages is an asset: French, Cree, Anishinaabemowin, Spanish, Ukrainian, Tagalog, Hebrew, Punjabi.
