Summer Student - Non-Union

This is a full-time, term position.

Under the direction of the Workplace Safety and Health Officers, the summer student will help ensure that health and safety standards are maintained, ensuring a safer work environment and supporting compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in the preparation and revision of safety talks, safety and health programs, and safe work procedures. Assist in monitoring and updating portals, folders, documents, and work instructions.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of health and safety incidents, inspections, and training activities, ensuring compliance with division protocols.
  • Assist in performing safety checks across school buildings to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assist in inspections during construction projects.
  • Assist in updating, tracking, and organizing emergency preparedness materials and means of communication
  • Assisting the Health and Safety Training Officer in preparing materials (i.e., toolbox talks, training schedules, etc.) for staff throughout the upcoming school year.
  • Support the team in identifying potential safety hazards within school facilities and suggesting corrective measures.
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • This position requires currently pursuing or recently completed studies in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field. Familiarity with workplace safety standards, regulations, and procedures is an asset.
  • The successful candidate should have a keen eye for identifying potential hazards and ensuring that all health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Time and priority management, working with a sense of urgency to meet or exceed deadlines.
  • Ability to assist with multiple tasks and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Dedication to anti-racism, equity, and diversity.

  • Proven ability to build collaborated cultures founded on integrity and collective purpose.
