Reporting to the Director, Backbone & Access Networks, the Sr. Manager IP Backbone networks oversees the planning, design, and implementation of Xplore’s MPLS and IP Backbone networks This position requires a strategic thinker with extensive technical expertise in network and internet architecture, strong leadership skills, and a track record of successful project management. Key accountabilities include: leading a team of network engineers and specialists; developing scalable and efficient network architectures, standards and processes; defining and implementing strategic network plans; managing vendor relationships; and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
Key responsibilities include:• Strategic Leadership: develop and implement strategic plans for Xplore’s core network infrastructure
• Team Management: lead and mentor a team of networking professionals
• Network Design: oversee the design, configuration, and deployment of scalable, secure and resilient core network architecture.
• Technical Expertise: provide expert guidance and support for complex network issues.
• Vendor Management: collaborate with vendors, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships.
• Compliance and Security: ensure compliance with industry regulations and implement robust security measures to safeguard the network infrastructure.
• Extensive industry experience (10+ years) in the design, deployment, and operations of telecommunications networks.
• Proven experience (5+ years) in a senior leadership role managing core network infrastructure in a large-scale carrier environment.
• Over 5 years of experience overseeing multiple large, complex network infrastructure projects.
• Experience in managing multi-million dollar capital and operating budgets.
• In-depth knowledge of current and emerging network technologies, architectures, and protocols (e.g., MPLS, TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, Segment Routing, etc.).
• Understanding project management methodologies, budgeting, resource allocation, and overseeing network projects from conception to execution.
• Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance standards.
• Understanding of fundamental business principles, including budgeting, financial management, revenue generation, and how network initiatives align with broader organizational objectives.
• Knowledge of negotiation strategies, vendor evaluation, contract management, and service level agreements to optimize vendor relationships and service delivery.
