School: Summer School Programming
Position: Teaching Principal - Administration and Teaching English, Mathematics or Science - Summer School - ½ days
Start Date: June 23, 2025
End Date: July 18, 2025
The Department of Education will be offering summer school courses for secondary students who have not successfully completed a course and who wish to strengthen their skills in one of the core academic subjects.
We also offer summer literacy camps for students entering Grade 2 or 3 next school year and numeracy camps for students entering grades 3 & 4.
The principal's duties will include:
• Collaborate with the superintendent to establish a teaching and support staff in preparation for the Summer School session.
• Providing educational and administrative leadership responsibilities for students and staff participating in Summer School.
• Teaching a summer school course
• Other leadership responsibilities for students and staff participating in summer school and summer literacy and numeracy camps.
Qualifications and Experience:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
• Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
• Recent experience teaching English or Mathematics or Science at the secondary level;
• Experience assisting and delivering blended model of instruction utilizing technology and paper based materials is an asset.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
• Educational leadership skills and outstanding ability to motivate and sustain a team
• Ability to plan, organize and manage secondary students in a physical or virtual classroom settings
• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities
• Ability to utilize a Student Information System such as Aspen for grade input and to maintain student records is an asset
• Knowledge and understanding of current evaluation and assessment practices
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills;
• Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population
• Previous Yukon Summer School experience would be an asset
• Recent school leadership experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
• Preference will be given to teachers currently employed by the Department of Education;
• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first
• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
