The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of:

CIVIL WORK CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR

(Permanent, Full-Time)

The Municipal Public Works Department (MPW) of the KRG is responsible for the construction and improvement of infrastructure for the municipalities (sewage lagoons, water treatment plants, roads, and landfills). Reporting to the Director of the Municipal public works department, the Civil work Construction supervisor duties and responsibilities will include, without being limited to:

  • Ensure execution of projects in accordance with the plans, specifications and guidelines as required by the Project Manager;
  • Assist the Northern Villages in planning, executing and completing seasonal projects as well as assist with the scheduling and maintenance of their heavy equipment;
  • In collaboration with the municipal manager, schedule and ensure daily tasks are completed;
  • Provide daily progress reports to the Project Manager that include machinery and materials usage control and propose practical solutions to problems that may arise;
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Project Manager or the Department

Types of on-going projects:

The candidate will often be called upon to supervise more than one project within the community. The types of projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Construction of new wastewater lagoons, dumpsites, roads, and new building pads;
  • Retrofitting or repair work on existing infrastructures;
  • Clean-up and improvement work in landfills (bulldozing and covering waste, drainage, building a sedimentation pond, etc.);
  • Installation of gabions, guardrails, fences, culverts, street gutter,

The selected candidate must:

  • Possess a civil engineering technician diploma or a technical background combined with work experience and relevant achievements could be considered as an equivalent;
  • Possess at least five (5) years of relevant experience in the civil works construction (roads, drainage structures, dykes, water lines, dumpsites, fences, etc.);
  • Have experience with surveying equipment (level, laser);
  • Be knowledgeable of MTQ standards;
  • Have a good understanding of various gravel fractions and mixtures suitable for various needs;
  • Be able to read plans and specifications;
  • Be able to operate heavy equipment, considered an asset;
  • Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French;
  • Have a strong ability to explain various tasks and concepts in simple terms;
  • Be reliable, show adaptability and demonstrate ability to work efficiently with limited supervision;
  • Have strong team work and relationship management competencies;
  • Have working knowledge of computer software applications, mainly Microsoft Office (is considered an asset);

Place of employment:

  • 6-3 rotation schedule: 6 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly) followed by 3 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly) OR;
  • 4-2 rotation schedule: 4 weeks working in the Northern Villages, followed by 2 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly);

Salary: Min. $51 077 - Max. $86 867 / year
