What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Foundations is a leader in the Canadian Foundations industry. From shoring systems to foundation piling of all types; Aecon Foundations brings the Aecon advantage to all of our market sectors and acts as a strong partner from project initiation, design development, field testing and execution.

The Project Controls/Commercial Manager will be responsible to set project controls guidelines and will oversee the commercial strategy on multiple project(s). The successful applicant will work closely with the senior operations team to develop and implement a project controls/commercial management system that drives performance and minimizes risk to the business. This role can sit out of Calgary, Edmonton, or Etobicoke.

What Youll Do Here:

  • Provide guidance to project controls and operations/project management teams to recognize emerging issues, leverage lessons learned and drive tools and process adoption, ensure reporting accuracy of key project metrics in a timely manner, and adherence to corporate guidelines and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Estimating, Operations and Finance personnel to develop methodologies that will enhance accuracy of project level financial forecasting.
  • Attend and contribute to Handover and Kick-Off meetings. Provide project controls input on the commercial, administrative and reporting requirements during project setup.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate setup of jobs in SAP.
  • Oversee scheduling functions to ensure accurate project performance monitoring and achievement of meet target completion dates.
  • Conduct detailed review and analysis of project performance control and reporting to understand and articulate key metrics and trends. (including CPI, SPI, key commodity tracking, cashflow etc.)
  • Ensure management is provided with timely review and progress of all projects and activity including completion of monthly project status report and forecasting reporting and endorse suggested corrective actions to maintain the project within planned cost and schedule.
  • Support project change management, including subcontractor claims, change requests, claims and dispute resolution.
  • Support the identification commercial risks and develops mitigation measures to ensure project control deliverables.
  • Develop, update and manage Risk Mitigation Plan.
  • Implement an effective system to ensure that all contractually required notices are delivered to the client in accordance with the terms of the project agreement
  • Oversee the administration of project contracts (project agreement, subcontracts, consultancy agreements, purchase agreements etc.), always ensuring that all contract deliverables and timelines are met while providing leadership to ensure commercial risk on project contracts are minimized.
  • Manage department staffing including the recruiting, mentoring and development of key support roles as necessary to meet the department functions.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent
  • 10 years experience working for a Contractor including experience on major projects/large scale projects
  • Minimum of 5 years commercial management experience on major projects throughout the project life cycle from bid to contract closeout.
  • Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating and cost control.
  • Strong knowledge of the Earned Value Management principles.
  • Ability to produce, read and modify schedules and scheduling curves/reports.
  • Leadership and team building skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of SAP and required project controls software which may include Primavera, Hard Dollar, Accubid.
