What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Director, Project Development, this role will support work within the Nuclear New Build portfolio of work including Small Modular Reactor Power Plants, Gigawatt-scale Large Reactor Power Plants, the Deep Geologic Repository, and other nuclear new-build projects on the horizon. The qualified candidate will be able to apply experience and skill in assessing and limiting risks and opportunities inherent in micro, small modular, and large-scale nuclear developments for clients here in Canada and internationally.

The successful candidate will ensure project success across multiple clients by implementing nuclear industry risk management best practice strategies against potential disruptions and setbacks, including managing commercial aspects to mitigate legal and financial risks.


What You'll Do Here

  • Leading risk identification, assessment, and mitigation efforts throughout the lifecycle of nuclear construction projects, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance in Canada and internationally
  • Support the Director of New Nuclear to establish and manage the New Nuclear Program (and related projects) related risks in support of the program objectives and success KPIs Collaborating closely with project stakeholders to analyze plans, specifications, and site conditions for potential risk factors.
  • Developing and implementing tailored risk management plans that address the unique client and technology challenges, including safety hazards, regulatory compliance, and environmental impact, while also managing contractual aspects to mitigate legal and financial risks.
  • Proactively support clients to minimize budget overruns, schedule delays, and quality issues through strategic risk mitigation measures.
  • Continuously monitoring project progress and risk indicators, adjusting mitigation strategies as needed to maintain project objectives.
  • Facilitating open communication and collaboration among diverse project teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure alignment and project success.
  • Understanding and adhering to Birds safety management system, policies, procedures, and values to maintain a culture of safety excellence.
  • Research, identify, evaluate, and utilize industry information such as prior project lessons learned, industry best practices, reasons for failed or unsuccessful projects, and strategies to mitigate enterprise-level risks.


What You Bring To The Team

  • Bachelors degree or diploma in construction management, engineering, or another relevant field with a focus on nuclear construction.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction project management or risk management, with a focus in the nuclear industry.
  • Deep understanding of the construction project lifecycle and associated risks specific to nuclear projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing risks on complex construction projects, effectively navigating regulatory requirements, and managing contractual aspects to mitigate legal and financial risks.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to think strategically
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and deliver accurate and reliable results.
