Job Description:

As part of our journey to modernize and drive efficiencies across the Finance function, the Finance Optimization team within Canadian Finance plays an important role in streamlining finance operations and leveraging technology and data analysis to drive efficiencies and introduce new capabilities.

As the Director of Finance Optimization, you will provide leadership support for the strategic development and implementation of key Canadian Finance optimization initiatives. The role requires strong collaboration, project management, and stakeholder management skills to align finance optimization efforts with the broader business needs.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, results-driven individual with a passion for leading and driving change to improve operational efficiency and modernize the finance function.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and implement finance optimization strategies, frameworks and initiatives to streamline operations and introduce new automated capabilities

  • Create and manage project plans, timelines and budgets

  • Conduct in-depth current state analysis to identify opportunities and efficiencies

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to understand requirements, prioritize and align efforts

  • Partner with specialists on the Canadian Finance Optimization, Corporate Finance, and Technology (DBTS) teams and embed technology and tools into end-to-end solutions

  • Monitor project health and report progress, risk mitigation and outcomes

  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging capabilities to modernize finance

  • Prepare and present materials to stakeholders with recommendations and updates

  • Effectively manage project teams comprising of finance professionals and specialists, and identify and address any obstacles that may impede the team's progress and productivity

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or business, with 5-7+ years of leadership experience

  • Proven track record of leading successful finance optimization initiatives and delivering measurable results, while working in Agile and Waterfall environments

  • Exceptional project management, communication, influencing and collaboration skills, including relationship management and team building

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and multitasking abilities to prioritize and execute multiple complex initiatives

  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (MS Project, Office, Jira, Confluence, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of data, process, accounting controls and best practices

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.

Assets:

  • Certified Project Management professional designation (PMP)

  • Business knowledge and experience related to the Insurance and/or financial services industry

  • Experience in a medium to large size organization with multiple divisions and lines of business

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
