The East Calgary Family Care Clinic (ECFCC) is known for providing comprehensive primary care for people with complex needs; such as any combination of chronic illnesses, mental health and addiction along with social or economic factors that negatively impact health. The dynamic team is composed of over 50 members representing 10 different professions. The Clinic is located in the East Calgary Health Centre. Reporting to the management of the East Calgary Family Care Clinic, the position is responsible for a variety of administrative and clinical duties. The clinical expectations for this role include preparing patients, equipment and supplies for clinic visits; assisting with patient flow within the clinic; measuring and recording vital signs and generally contributing to efficient processes that optimize the patients’ clinic visit experience. This role also includes booking patients for appointments, directing patient calls, liaising with external providers, pharmacies, etc. and general reception duties such as managing faxes. The role expectations include other basic clinical functions that can be safely performed by an unregulated clinic assistant after appropriate learning has been achieved. Additional supports may be offered to patients such as booking and managing appointments in the community and at other facilities. As an Administrative Support IV, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program.

Some post-secondary education.

Medical Office Assistant certificate or equivalent required. Current certification of BLS for HCP required. 3 years of administrative experience in a health care setting in past 5 years. Experience in measuring patient vital signs. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to work with minimal direct supervision required. Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated excellent skills in time management, organization, problem solving and priority decision making required. Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated ability to de-escalate patients with aggressive predispositions by phone or in person. Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability within a complex and rapidly changing environment and may involve working with clients who present criminal or suicidal tendencies; potential exposure to violence and aggression.

Intermediate experience and competency with multiple computer programs (MS Word, Excel and EMR). Experience with Connect Care is an asset. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and motivated. Experience in appointment coordination with complex clients. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of all ages, from diverse backgrounds and cultures using a supportive, non-judgmental approach. 2 years primary care experience preferred.
