About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Downstream Portfolio Management & Business Integration, the Specialist, Refining Economics, Planning & Optimization is responsible to coordinate direct, indirect, and cross-functional teams to provide integrated engagement models to support interdependencies between operated assets, non-operated assets and corporate functions. This role will support the Director with day-to-day delivery of a unified Downstream management system including integrated annual business cycles and practices, five year and long-range planning, focused capital management and reporting, ESG and energy efficiency framework, and to streamline and improve Downstream performance.

This position can be based in Calgary, AB or Dublin, Ohio.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the preparation and publishing of quarterly business plan and forecast updates and obtain necessary approvals

  • Closely support the economic evaluation of potential asset development options (including ESG) for the long-range planning process and business case evaluation and development for investment decisions

  • Support and articulate Downstream asset level strategy and effective interactions between Downstream and Corporate Strategy teams

  • Identify and lead continuous improvement and change management activities required to support transition to and sustainment of new processes in support of Downstream Manufacturing business process maturity

  • Build, steward and quality-control integrated views of portfolio profitability across the value chain, in coordination with Finance and Commercial, including Performance Management results

  • Support the Downstream Environment Social Governance (ESG) prioritization and advancement, in collaboration with asset, regional and corporate leadership, and Sustainability

  • Monitor, capture and share findings from portfolio-level Internal Audit engagements

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada/US

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Process / Chemicals or Mechanical), or related field; Master’s degree is an asset

  • 12+ years of experience in petroleum refining operations, engineering, optimization and LP modeling, management of change, turnarounds, brownfield projects planning

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership / supervisory responsibility

  • Experience with Downstream Economics & Scheduling, along with exposure to commercial value chain such as products contracts negotiations is strongly desired

  • Strong leadership, business, operating, commercial, financial, strategic planning, risk, negotiation, and program and/or portfolio management competence, and uses this knowledge to improve results for the company

  • Proven experience facilitating structured decision-making

  • Ability to think strategically to address large, complex current and emergent issues

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate business opportunities, influence, and foster a culture of accountability and engagement
