Description
The Assistant Head Nurse position is a member of the leadership team who guides the multidisciplinary healthcare team in providing best practice, person-centered care at the medically supported detox program. This position will be responsible for assisting the team in the development and delivery of recovery-oriented programming within a medical setting. The Assistant Head Nurse will provide supervision, guidance and mentoring while promoting wellness and cultural competency to frontline employees. The role of the Assistant Head Nurse will demonstrate a strong understanding and grounding in addiction and mental health services and ensure employees maintain the respect and dignity of those requiring services. The Assistant Head Nurse demonstrates excellence in leadership, person centered care, interpersonal communication, organization and a broad knowledge of mental health nursing. This position may involve heavy lifting, extended workday and psychologically stressful situations. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum 2 years' experience in an Addiction & Mental Health nursing role. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a clinical nurse leadership role.
Proficiency and understanding of computer systems: Connect Care. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining knowledge and skills through professional development or continuing education. Established ability to coach and mentor peers as well as other members of the interdisciplinary team. Experience in a detoxification or residential treatment program is preferred.
