Reporting to the Program Manager of Rehabilitation & Allied Health Services, the Social Work Assistant Manager Allied Health is responsible for management the of human, financial and physical resources of Social Work services at the University of Alberta Hospital, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute and the Kaye Edmonton Clinic. This position is part of the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program and a member of a dynamic leadership team, where leadership and accountability is shared. The Social Work Manager leads a team of highly skilled Social Workers in all program areas and subspecialties across the University of Alberta Campus, including cardiac sciences, transplants, renal, medicine, surgery, neurosciences and ambulatory clinics. The Manager Social Work will provide clinical leadership to ensure quality Social Work services. The manager provides specialized clinical expertise and provides strong leadership to frontline staff. You will coach team members to achieve comprehensive and integrated care planning, promote the development of clinical practice quality improvements, implement evidence-based practice and critically assess, evaluate, anticipate and address risks to patient and staff safety. You will communicate and model the AHS values and foster inter-professional teamwork, patient centered care and innovation. This role leads the implementation of provincial, zone and local clinical and operational priorities and initiatives at the unit/service level in collaboration with other unit managers and patient care managers. The position requires strong relationship building abilities that includes facilitation, collaboration, consultation and negotiation skills. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining an effective operational framework for the delivery of efficient, effective and safe patient care utilizing sound critical thinking and ethical decision making.

Baccalaureate degree Social Work required, Masters preferred. Active registration with Alberta College of Social Workers. Experience in acute and critical care is essential, preferably in an acute tertiary level facility. Strong clinical skills in social work, including knowledge of appropriate community resources, supports and legislation required of the role. Experience in managing daily staffing and scheduling. Demonstrate and lead social work best practice and model practice standards. Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in clinical practice, with at least 3 years in leadership, facilitation, coaching, people management, change management and quality improvement. Knowledge of AHS, Alberta’s healthcare structure, and of collective agreements required.

Knowledge and experience working with electronic medical records is preferred and experience in use of EPIC/Connect Care is highly desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint is preferred.
