South Zone Medical Affairs is looking for Clinical Assistants to assist various departments (Hospitalist, General Internal Medicine) at Chinook Regional Hospital and Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Clinical Assistants play an important role in the delivery of health care. The Alberta Clinical and Surgical Assistant Program (ACSAP) provides International Medical Graduates (IMGs) with an alternate career path to become Clinical/Surgical Assistants. ACSAP programs put candidates through a six-month assessment and evaluation that, upon successful completion, can lead to a full-time and permanent acute care coverage role that addresses clinical and/or surgical coverage shortages. Southern Alberta is a beautiful location to find work life balance, enjoy the beauty of the landscapes, recreational activities and a low cost of living. Enjoy less traffic and shorter commute times.

This is an alternate provider role in which the successful candidate will obtain a limited medical license issued from the College of Physician and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), and will work under the direction of a supervising physician within a multidisciplinary team setting to deliver acute patient care. Responsibilities may include admissions, discharge planning, ordering diagnostics, and overall Patient and Family Centered Care. These positions represent an opportunity created for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to be selected and prepared for work as Clinical Assistants in clinical departments. IMGs are landed immigrants, Canadian citizens and/or have employment authorization from the Canadian government and fulfill the program requirements. Applicants must have been successfully pre-screened through the Provincial CA Screening program prior to applying. https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/assets/info/hp/phys/if-hp-phys-ca-eligibility-overview.pdf

Applicant must be either a landed immigrant (Permanent Resident) or a Canadian Citizen at the time of application. Applicants must be a graduate of a medical school located outside of Canada and the United States, listed in the Foundation of Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) International Medical Directory (IMED). Experience in an acute hospital based care facility within the last 3 years. Preference will be given to applicants who have had active acute care surgical experience within the last 3 years. Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME): Must have completed a recognized orthopedic or general surgery residency program with a successful completion of an existing board exam. Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1): Applicants must have passed the MCC Qualifying Examination Part 1 prior to application. English Language Proficiency: As a requirement for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), applicants must have taken the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Canada with minimum required scores of 7.0 in each of the components within 24 months prior to registration.

This posting is open only to those who have received a positive CA Pre-Screen Letter from AHS and have included it in their application. If you do not have a letter and/or have not applied for the CA Pre-Screening Process, you will find more information at http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/medstaff/Page7094.aspx
