This Sonographer position is based out of the Foothills Medical Center in a very dynamic and fast paced Diagnostic Imaging Department. Reporting to the Diagnostic Imaging manager/supervisor, this position supports a safe and efficient patient and family centered care experience. This position is responsible for providing high-quality direct patient care and producing quality images. As part of an interdisciplinary Diagnostic Imaging Services team, this position is required to work all shifts and provide on-call coverage when assigned. This position may rotate through the Arthur J.E. Child Cancer Center.

As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.

Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Graduate of an approved Ultrasound Training Program. Effectively uses information and communication technology. Strong organizational skills. Ability to collaborate and work effectively with technical, medical, and administrative personnel. Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Ability to work independently and cooperatively to promote good teamwork. Ability to work under pressure, in emergency situations and balance and prioritize numerous demands. Sound judgement and concern for detail and accuracy. Compassionate and caring attitude and focused patient and family centered care.

Preferred 2 years current U/S experience. Breast imaging experience an asset. Contrast Ultrasound experience an asset.
