Description
The Cardiac Diagnostics department within SHC is currently recruiting for a Temp Full Time Diagnostic Sonographer I. Reporting to the Unit Manager of Cardiac Diagnostics and Clinics, the Diagnostic Sonographer is responsible for the performance of various echocardiographic studies, understanding and recognizing the pathophysiology associated with these studies, and reporting the resulting data. Specifically, the Diagnostic Sonographer will: Demonstrate proficiency and prioritization in performing and assisting with Echocardiography studies including: Transthoracic Echocardiograms. Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Pericardiocentesis. Stress Testing. Contrast studies. Supporting learners including sonography student or physician learners. The Diagnostic Sonographer is an essential part of the healthcare team, and the successful candidate must possess strong intrapersonal skills, demonstrate an ability to clearly communicate in stressful situations, and consistently execute attention to detail in work performance. The successful candidate will understand and comply with legal requirements of licensure, the Health Professions Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Health Information Act and other relevant legislation. They will also self-identify professional development needs and competencies thereby seeking appropriate learning opportunities and critically reflecting on their abilities and practices.
As a Diagnostic Sonographer I, you will perform a variety of standardized and complex ultrasound services for the diagnosis and tracking of disease and pathology. Your responsibilities include preparing the patient for examination, reviewing patient history, explaining procedures, obtaining ultrasound images of diagnostic quality, and takes initial action to resolve abnormal findings. You will assist with diagnosis, clinical intervention and patient management all while ensuring a high level of patient care and safety. Your work may include assisting Radiologists and Cardiologists, Perinatologists and other medical staff with special procedures where required.
Completion of extended diploma from an accredited ultrasound program or completion of certification in Diagnostic Sonography from an accredited program. Active or eligible for registration with Sonography Canada and/or Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic & Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Graduate of an approved training program in Ultrasonography as recognized by Sonography Canada/American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Minimum 1 year of experience as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in an acute care setting (equivalent to 0.5 FTE or greater). Applicants with Sonography experience in a community setting may be considered if the experience is echo specific. Experience in performing procedures including: Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Pericardiocentesis. Stress Testing. Contrast Studies. ARDMS Pediatric Echo certification. Familiarity with the following IT systems: Connect Care and ISCV.
