This Electronic Tech II position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering at the University of Alberta Hospitals (UAH) site. The incumbent will assist in maintaining 8 facilities, totaling more than 650,000 m2 of clinical and mechanical space: Acute Care, Laboratory, Research, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial equipment. The incumbent will monitor, maintain, commission, and document in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Fire Code, Electrical Safety Program, Department Policy, Life Safety, and Building Code regulations. Working with a multidisciplinary team of Tradespeople, Maintenance Workers and with Clinical staff, the incumbent scope of work will include but not limited to, maintaining the electronic systems such as Building Management Systems, Security systems, Nurse Call systems, Fire Alarm System and TAO Phone systems, FME computer software/hardware, Door automation, Lenel Security system including camera systems, Motorola Radio system, Key management System, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Instrumentation equipment, AV equipment, intercoms, automatic doors, lighting systems including Cristal, Douglas and Reliable Controls, uninterrupted power systems, Building Fire Alarm systems, all Sterilizing and Medical processing equipment, Nurse Call System, TOA & Aiphone systems, Panic Alarm systems, instrument washers, Gas Detection, sound masking, internal server management. The incumbent will assist but is not limited to for Major & Minor Capital Projects at the UAH site, initial start-up meetings, review specifications & drawings, with Consultants, Engineers, Project Managers, Coordinators, Clinical Liaison. The Electronic Tech II’s responsibilities is to uphold the integrity of all systems quality to assure the hospital occupants are in a comfortable and safe environment as per FME requirements.

As an Electronics Technologist II, you will perform maintenance and repair duties on a variety of complex non-clinical electronic systems in accordance with manuals, specifications and AHS standards and practices. You will be responsible for complex non-clinical electronic systems and will exercise independence when completing daily responsibilities of the position.

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Certificate in one of the following trades: Electrician, Electronics Technician or Instrument Technician from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training; or completion of a two-year diploma of related technology (Electronic Technologist).

Required experience with the Fire Alarm and Security System Code, Electrical Code, Alberta Building Code and Safety Regulations, Electronics, Computers, and server support, implementing preventive maintenance schedules, documentation, prepare feasibility, cost estimates, reports, and ordering supplies. Must be thoroughly familiar with tools and equipment used in the trade. Required understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Requires the ability to work independently and effectively in an interdisciplinary setting and maintain high confidentiality, detail-oriented, establish priorities, respond to requests promptly and meet deadlines. Proven reliability and dependability with no physical limitations concerning sitting, kneeling, crawling, squatting, standing, walking, and working at heights. Demonstrated self-direction, adaptability, and flexibility are required while working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment, responding to changing demands and ability to organize and prioritize workload. Must meet all organizational policy requirements for employment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Electronic Tech II position requires to have credential of one of the following designations: Electronics Technician, Instrument Technician, Electrical or Electronic Technologist or equivalent.

Minimum 5 years’ work experience in the following trades or designations: Electronics Technician, Instrument Technician, Electronic Technologist, Instrumentation Journeyperson, Electrical Journeyperson. Minimum 2 years’ experience in an active hospital maintenance program. Completion of a 2-year diploma of related technology Electro-Mechanical Technician/technologist, engineering degree or ASET certification is an asset. CFAA - Canadian Fire Alarm Association is an asset.
