Health Care Aide - Regularized Relief Team Med/Surg

The Regularized Relief Team (RRT) is a team of RNs, LPNs, HCAs and support staff who are cross trained within the surgical and medical portfolios at PLC and offers the opportunity for collaboration and for personal and professional development within a variety of teams. This RRT Health Care Aide position provides coverage to the Surgical/Medical units at PLC. You will provide patient care services as a regulated worker by CLPNA (College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta) under the supervision of a RN, RPN or LPN. You will provide patient and family centred care and perform tasks related to activities of daily living and other specific procedures on the nursing unit. Heavy lifting and repetitive movements are necessary during the course of performing duties on these units. You will have the unique opportunity to work in a collaborative care service delivery model (CoAct). As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum 1 year experience as an HCA in an acute inpatient medical or surgical nursing unit within the last 2 years. New grads who have completed a final practicum in an acute medical or surgical nursing unit may be considered. Understanding of CoAct and collaborative care in the acute care setting. Foundational understanding of IPC standards within AHS. Basic Knowledge of computers and software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office).

Minimum 3 years’ experience as a HCA within the last 5 years in an acute inpatient surgical or medical nursing unit. Previous Regularized Relief Float Team experience as a HCA. Experience with electronic documentation using Connect Care (Epic). Completion of It’s Your Move training.
