The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services - Calgary Zone invites applications for a Pediatric Dentist. The successful candidate will work as part of the Dental Clinic at the Alberta Children’s Hospital which provides comprehensive pediatric dental care to children with medical complexities within the city of Calgary and surrounding areas. The Alberta Children’s Hospital is a bright modern, family centered facility that is a cornerstone for quality care and research for the children of Calgary and southern Alberta. The ACH dental clinic sees on average 3000 children each year, who would otherwise likely not be able to receive good dental care. The clinic consists of dentists and dental assistants who work collaboratively to support patients within the clinic as well as provide support and consultation to other areas such as Cleft Palate, Cranial Facial, TMJ and identified inpatient dental needs. The clinic also works collaboratively with community dental partners to facilitate patient transitions to community dental care. The ACH Dental Clinic also enjoys a strong partnership with educational institutions in the way of teaching and mentoring dental students and residents. The Pediatric Dentist will become a member of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry in the Section of Dentistry and Oral Health. Privileges will also be provided for access to the Non-Hospital Surgical Facility under the AHS Dentistry Contract.

The Hospital Specialist Pediatric Dentist will provide comprehensive dental care to children with medical complexities. They will also provide consultation and assessment of patients with Cleft Palate, TMJ and Cranial Facial disorders. They will participate in the pediatric dentistry on-call rotation, the teaching of dental students and residents and provide as needed support to inpatient units and the ER. This position may be subject to change to a fee for service compensation model.

DMD/DDS. Pediatric Dentistry Specialty Degree.

Completed a pediatric dental specialty training program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada or by an organization with a reciprocal accreditation agreement with CDAC. This program may be a certificate or a Master's degree. Must pass the National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE) for Pediatric Dentistry and the RCDC fellowship Examination within 1 year from the commencement of employment. Eligible for Alberta Dental License.

Experience with procedural sedation. Consultation and assessment of pediatric patients with cleft palate and TMJ. Knowledge of resources and referral programs for community based dental treatment. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
