The Instructor - Clinical Nurse Educator uses principles of adult learning and assesses, plans, implements and evaluates education and development needs of all roles within the medicine program. The incumbent facilitates, coordinates and supports the implementation of educational initiatives for orientation, mandatory education, and on unit support and continuing education. Other duties include promoting the clinical competence of all unit-based roles through changes in policy, procedures, protocols, technology and our reporting and learning systems. The Clinical Nurse Educator works as part of the larger medicine program team under the direction of a patient care manager to support quality initiatives and other program needs. As such, coverage of other areas within the medicine program and site will be a necessary part of this position.

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum of 5 years nursing experience in a variety of acute care nursing areas such as critical care, emergency department and medicine, 3 years' experience with acute hematology patients and 2 years of experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator or instructor, as well as leadership experience as a Charge Nurse. One of the following specialized nursing skills peritoneal dialysis, ventilator care, Intermediate care (including telemetry), as well as advance chemotherapy administration. Knowledge of CoACT, AHS collaborative care framework and their care elements. Proven track record with teaching adults using several different mediums such as one on one, classroom, skills lab, simulations, computer modules, both virtually and in person. Experience applying adult learning principles with teaching, curriculum development, implementation and evaluation health content for employees and patients. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and knowledge of best practice. Candidates must be highly motivated, self-directed, flexible and have an established evaluation process for their teaching effectiveness and must be extremely organized and have strong interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills are necessary with experience with proficiency in Connect Care, Power Point, and other virtual teaching tools such as Snag It, Teams, Microsoft Stream.

Master of Nursing preferred. Experience with RLS and clean hands portal ideal. Process improvement courses and/or certification is an asset. Training/courses in leadership, conflict resolution, change management and communication is an asset. Experience working as a nurse in multiple sub-specialties of medicine, such as Family Medicine, GIM, Geriatrics, GI, Pulmonary, and Nephrology, are assets.
