Reporting to a Unit Manager, you will apply your knowledge, skills and judgment in the assessment of patient needs and provision of patient care to your full scope of practice, as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) and Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury. Collaborating as part of the interdisciplinary team, your responsibilities will include assessing and documenting patient needs, participating in the formulation of a nursing diagnosis and treatment care plan, implementing treatment plans and interventions and assisting with activities of daily living. In addition, you will promote and maintain a professional work environment, attend in-services and clinical competency programs, take part in quality management activities, and perform other related duties as required. The Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury is a 48 bed facility that provides care for patients with acquired brain injury through an interdisciplinary approach. The Program is a progressive and expanding service with a commitment to professional development and excellence. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

You will be physically capable of carrying out duties of this position. This is physically demanding position that requires the LPN to assist with ADL’s including toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring, re-positioning, escorting patients to and from programs, managing behavioral patients as a result of their brain injury among other duties. Complex moderate to severe brain injury patients may be very dependent at time for care needs. Leadership, observation and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a psychiatric/rehabilitation setting are essential.

You have a strong clinical background and are familiar with the management of Enteral feeds, indwelling catheters, diabetic management, greater than 6 months experience with Neurological patients or experience with brain injury rehabilitation is an asset.
