Licensed Practical Nurse

Unit 29 is a 32-bed in-patient unit that covers the following surgical focuses general, colorectal, gynecology, and breast-hernia-thyroid. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides a professional, caring and comprehensive approach to the surgical and medical patient. The LPN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients and families for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, illness and safety prevention. This unit uses the CoAct collaborative model of care.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 2 years surgical nursing experience within the last 3 years required. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Strong patient teaching skills. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and prioritization of skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrates patient and family centered care principles within own nursing practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of CoAct and collaborative care in the acute care setting. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies

Experience in the following surgical areas is preferred: colorectal, Gyne, and breast/hernia/thyroid. Nurses with a final focus on Unit 29, will be given consideration.
