Licensed Practical Nurse

Reporting to the Managers of Day Surgery, and in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse provides patient care by rotating through two separate Units at the Foothills Medical Centre; including, McCaig Day Surgery and Unit 41B (General Surgical Inpatient Unit). The Licensed Practical Nurse provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient/family care needs. The Licensed Practical Nurse also acts as a strong patient advocate through collaborative discharge planning in both the outpatient Day Surgery Units and the Inpatient General Surgery Unit (41B). The Licensed Practical Nurse on the inpatient Unit will support patient and family centered care through their engagement in Collaborative Practice (CoAct); including participating in care hub huddles, bedside shift report, comfort rounds, NOD, and RAAPID rounds.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 4-5 years recent acute surgical inpatient LPN experience is required. Experience working to full scope of practice an asset. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Critical thinking skills within scope of practice, including clinical judgment and problem solving. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to adjust to rapid changes in workload.
