The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the health care team, providing care to cardiology patients within the CLPNA scope of practice. The Licensed Practical Nurse participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Requires the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching and sustained posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling of objects greater than 30 lbs. Demonstrated ability to perform and document physical assessments. Demonstrated ability to administer medications within the acute care setting. Demonstrated critical thinking skills in clinical judgment and problem-solving. Recent experience in an acute care setting at the full scope of practice. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective interpersonal communication skills. Basic computer skills. Must pass cardiac sciences core orientation and dysrhythmia certification exam per unit standard as a condition of employment to ensure a safe standard of care. Demonstrated ability to administer medications within the acute care setting. Recent experience in caring for medical/cardiac patients.
