Description
The LPN reports to the clinic manager of the Medical Specialty Clinic and works collaboratively with Rheumatologists, Infectious Disease Specialists, and other members of the care delivery team including outside agencies. The LPN works in a fast-paced high-volume clinic assisting with patients seen in the Rheumatology and Infectious Diseases Clinic as well as associated specialized programs (Hepatitis Support, RAPPORT and Northern Alberta Programs). The LPN is responsible for initial patient assessment and administration of general treatment to the patient under the direction of the physician. As an LPN in an Ambulatory setting, you have excellent written and verbal communication skills and are an important part of an interdisciplinary team that ensures appropriate patient care in an outpatient setting. The LPN plays a key role in the support of an integrated and holistic approach to the patient's healthcare and health promotion. A medium level of physical activity is required to fulfill job requirements including, but not limited to, reaching above shoulders frequently, looking up frequently. Prolonged periods of computer/ keyboard work is required. Sufficient mobility to stand for extended periods, work in noisy environment, bend, stoop, and move around rapidly throughout the shift is required. Must be able to lift and carry 10-15kg regularly and participate in hands on care of patients (i.e. transfers, bariatric clients, bending, twisting, walking distances).
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Current BCLS-HCP. With physical ability to perform CPR on adults. 2 years current LPN experience in the ambulatory setting. Required certification: Immunization administration. Experience assisting physicians during minor procedures.
Recent experience in Rheumatology and Infectious Diseases, Hepatitis and HIV. Current certification in: PICC care and removal and Methotrexate administration. Experience with patient teaching and Fibroscan Certification. Connect Care Clinic Nurse documentation experience.
