At Library Services (KRS), our team of information specialists puts information and knowledge into the hands of clinicians and patients every day, empowering them to make well-informed, safe healthcare decisions. Reporting to the Team Lead, the Medical Library Technician (MLT) supports the delivery and development of province-wide information, reference and research services to library users both in-person and virtually. The MLT connects AHS staff and healthcare providers with reliable health information through such activities as: reference interviews; literature searches; evidence literacy instruction; selection, promotion and circulation of health information materials; interlibrary loans; and document delivery services. The MLT is responsible for the day-to-day operations of KRS physical library locations. The MLT also contributes to the development and maintenance of a relevant and authoritative collection of information resources, including processing and cataloguing materials and weeding outdated materials. The specific duties of the MLT may vary based on the staff complement at library sites and operational needs. This position will be located at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic and is a 0.8 Full-Time Equivalent.

As a Medical Library Technician (MLT), you will support the delivery of library and information services to the patients, staff and physicians of AHS. You will support operational areas in evidence-based decision-making and the implementation of leading Knowledge Management practices. This includes fulfilling client information needs by providing reference, technical, statistical and administrative services that facilitate access to library information and collections. You will also facilitate access to comprehensive health information and resources for patients, families, physicians and health care providers.

Completion of Information Management/Library Technology Diploma.

A Library Information Technology Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. Proficiency in information technology and computer applications used in libraries is required. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, effectively managing and setting priorities when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines. Experience working in a large organization and as part of a large, geographically dispersed team is desirable Strong information management, communication, presentation, interpersonal and public relations skills Proven problem solving, decision making and leadership abilities. The capability to complete functions independently, as well as collaboratively. Ability to work effectively in a remote environment and communicate using online tools. Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and service-oriented manner. Ability to effectively manage and set priorities when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines Ability to resolve conflict in a timely and professional manner. Ability to follow and adhere to Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Ability to safeguard Alberta Health Services information as private and confidential. Effective time management and multi-tasking abilities.

At least one year of directly related library experience in a hospital or health care setting is an asset. Beneficial memberships include: Alberta Association of Library Technicians (AALT), Canadian Health Libraries Association (CHLA), Association of Alberta Health Libraries (AAHL).
