Mental Health Clinician

Reporting to the Manager and Supervisor this position will work in Community Addiction and Mental Health as part of the Enhanced Services for Women team. Using recovery-oriented systems of care you will work to support equity deserving pregnant people, isolated pregnant or postpartum individuals having difficulty accessing support on their own. This program offers screening, assessment, treatment, navigation support and group facilitation to pregnant and postpartum individuals struggling with substance use and/or mental health concerns. There is an outreach component to this position and services can be offered at clinic or out in the community. Consultation with relevant stake holders is a key aspect in connecting clients with community agencies and other resources to support clients to meet their needs. Some committee work may be involved as needed. Other duties may be assigned that align with the scope of the role. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master¿s degree in Psychology, a Bachelor¿s degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master¿s or Bachelor¿s degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor¿s degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor¿s degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Two or more years of counselling experience. Training in Motivational Interviewing and knowledge of harm reduction related to substance use. Understanding of recovery-oriented systems of care.
