Based on location availability, the successful applicant has the option to work from either our Ponoka or our Red Deer office. Additionally, this position is eligible for a remote hybrid agreement after a period or orientation. Reporting to the Manager, VODP and with the support of the Clinical Supervisor, the MHT will offer harm reduction focused, mental health and addiction services to clients across the province. As an MHT you will work within an interdisciplinary environment to provide harm reduction focused, culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for opioid dependent clients and their families. Tasks include following regulatory procedures regarding Suboxone and Methadone, as well as monitoring prescription changes, facilitating changes with doses, monitoring urine drug screen results, ensuring the VODP physician is apprised of patient status and supporting the client’s general physical and emotional health related to addiction. Collaborating with Pharmacies, Labs, Emergency Departments, Physicians, existing Addiction and Mental Health Services, you will take a participatory decision-making approach within a team and external stakeholders in finding solutions and resources to support individuals with an opioid dependency. The successful applicant is an assertive, proactive individual with a strong foundation in mental health and addictions and excels at working professionally and independently in a collaborative, fast-paced, positive team environment that requires excellent assessment, prioritization, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Your understanding, passion, and experience in ODT is essential, as well as excellent computer, texting, and telephone etiquette, as you will be monitoring and evaluating client progress via telehealth and telephone.

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

A combination of related education and experience may be considered in the following programs: Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and authorized by ACSW with a Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing with: Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Minimum of 3 years of relevant mental health experience. Strong working knowledge of the addiction and mental health system across the province and the ability to locate resources that may be useful for callers based on clinical judgement. Advanced skills in assessment and intervention for individuals of all ages with addiction and mental health concerns, including crisis intervention skills. Strong knowledge of mental health and substance use concerns. Excellent computer skills essential, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. 2 years’ experience in counselling preferred. Experience working in an Opioid Agonist Treatment Program preferred. Working knowledge of Trauma Informed Care, working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing preferred. 2 years’ experience working with individuals with Addictions and Mental Health issues preferred.
