Description
Reporting to the Care Manager for Children Youth & Families Addiction and Mental Health, the Mental Health Therapist (MHT) with the Crisis & Stabilization Team (CAST) will work primarily with the Youth Police and Crisis Team (YPACT). The MHT will work with the Edmonton Police Service providing mental health and risk assessment, triage and referral, as well as crisis intervention, de-escalation and short-term brief solution focused therapy. This is a very mobile position that may also be required to provide Children’s Crisis telephone service along with appropriate intervention and mobile response to crisis situations as needed. The MHT will also be required to liaise with Emergency Room Consultation/ Psychiatry staff, EPS/RCMP and other community partners, as well as have significant knowledge with both facility and community resources in order to effectively assess and refer clients appropriately. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection required. The MHT will also be involved in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development activities, and liaison with community partners. This position will require the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and the flexibility to adjust to the demands of ongoing program development.
As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college (CARNA, CRPNA, ACOT, CAP, ACSW). Minimum of 3 years of relevant addiction and mental health experience providing crisis intervention preferably in a community setting.

Formal clinical training in triage, intervention and stabilization, preferably in a community setting. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Ability to ambulate, climb stairs, and move quickly without limitations in a variety of environments. Extensive knowledge of the resources of Addiction and Mental Health and the community.
