The Cardiac Inpatient Unit (ACU 66), working collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the South Health Campus, is in the process of hiring a Nurse Clinician (NC). Our unit offers a unique opportunity to work with acute General Internal Medicine and Cardiology patients in a modern environment. The NC is a leadership role responsible for planning, organizing and evaluating the provision of care on the Unit. The NC directs workflow by assigning and coordinating patient care by evaluating and assessing priorities and reevaluates frequently as needed. The incumbent ensures accurate and timely communication with the multidisciplinary team including information related to changes in patient status, care plans and patient and family member concerns. The Nurse Clinician acts as a role model for the department and sets the tone for a positive work environment to enhance interpersonal relationships and team effectiveness. The Nurse Clinician guides and supports nursing staff in their development of professional and clinical skills. The incumbent assists in the development and implementation of policies and departmental guidelines as well as participates in quality improvement initiatives on the Unit. The Nurse Clinician is accountable for advancing Collaborative Care Practices on the unit working with the Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Educator. The NC is accountable to the public for his/her own practice and is responsible for ensuring that practice meets legislative requirements, the practice standards set by the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA), and the Canadian Code of Ethics. The NC is guided by their education, expertise, experience and demonstrated skill level and AHS policies, procedures and job description.

As a Nurse Clinician (NC), you will be responsible for the coordination of an interprofessional team, in the provision of quality patient (client, resident) care in order to meet the operational priorities and requirements within a clinical setting. You will use an integrative leadership approach in assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs, while assuming responsibility for staff assignments, patient flow and clinical resources. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum 1 years’ current experience on Acute Care Adult Cardiology & Internal Medicine Unit. Minimum 5 years' total experience on Acute Care Adult Medical, Cardiology or Internal Medicine Unit within the past 7 years. 3 years’ recent Charge Nurse experience on an Acute Care Adult Cardiology/Internal Medicine or Acute Care Adult Medical Unit. Advanced Skills certifications including: PCA, TPN, CVAD, Chest Tube maintenance, PCIs, tracheostomy care, defibrillation and BiPAP. Current telemetry certification. Strong background in mentoring and education. Current involvement in Quality improvement activities within healthcare. Current Epic; Connect Care proficiency. Clear pattern of professional growth and increased responsibilities. Demonstrated exceptional leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience with family centered care and collaborative practice approach and philosophy. Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Please attach current resume.
