A new full-time Senior’s Care Nurse Practitioner position has been approved in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alberta, North Zone. Located in Fort McMurray, specifically in the new state of the art seniors facility Willow Square, the post involves provision of comprehensive health services to a maximum of 108 residents (capacity of the facility). Willow Square is conveniently situated across the street from the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, the Hospital in Fort McMurray. The resident bed population comprises of: 36 Long Term Care residents, which include 10 transition/rehab beds, and 2 respite beds. 36 DSL residents. 36 DSL4D residents. Not at capacity at the time of posting. Lab services are available 2x weekly. A local pharmacy delivers medications several times each week. As a Nurse Practitioner, along with 3 Case Managers, and Head Nurses on LTC, DSL & DSL4D, you will be tasked with assessing, organizing, diagnostic testing, and generally managing the health issues of most of the residents. An experienced Wound Care RN provides regular scheduled and PRN visits to the facility. Specialist medical, surgical, psychiatric and dental consults are easily obtainable as needed. There are a few Family Physicians looking after a handful of DSL and DSL4D residents. The number of attending FPs is expected to dwindle in the next year or so. This position is an exciting new opportunity, you will have the unreserved support of a very collegial staff as you journey ahead in your next career move. This position works Weekdays for the first 6 months then open to altering rotation. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
