The Emergency Department at the Peter Lougheed Centre is a 69-bed department. It is comprised of an interdisciplinary department that provides care to patients of varying acuity. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT)/Licenced Practical Nurse (LPN) in the emergency department you will work as an essential member of the Peter Lougheed Hospital Emergency Department team caring for patients of varying acuity. Specific Accountabilities: The ROT/LPN role at the Peter Lougheed Hospital works to full LPN scope of practice and is responsible for planning, assessing, treating, and monitoring the care of the orthopedic and minor acuity patients at the Peter Lougheed Hospital emergency department. The successful applicant enjoys working in a fast-paced busy urban emergency department and demonstrates the ability to prioritize and work well with an interdisciplinary team. The ROT/LPN also demonstrates ongoing professional development and occasionally engages department staff in basic orthopedic teaching. The LPN is responsible and accountable to the public for his/her own practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Graduate of recognized Advanced Education in Orthopedics program within Canada. Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) with a CLPNA recognized orthopedic training program. Current Emergency or Urgent Care experience within the last 12 months. Work within a team and accept direction as required.

Current certification with Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technologists. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, problem solving skills and strong decision-making ability. Demonstrates Family Centered Care, professional interpersonal and communication skills. Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills. Cast room experience. Epic-Connect Care trained. Up to date ACE modules.
