Are you tired of working evenings and weekends? The Central Alberta Cancer Center is a busy and fast paced Regional Cancer Center located in Red Deer, Alberta that is open Monday through Friday. Pharmacy Technicians practice to their full scope and perform all aspects of drug distribution services to provide safe and quality patient care. Pharmacy Technician dispensing related responsibilities include triage, preparation, repackaging and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions, and ward stock. Other duties include interacting with patients at the front desk, inventory management, guiding and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students, collecting and organizing information to support the provision of direct patient care, participating in special projects and programs as assigned, and maintaining department records and statistics as required. It is important to build and maintain successful interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team, including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions, and problem- solving distribution issues. Technicians must demonstrate a high standard of performance through the completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic techniques and final product checking. The pharmacy supports remote drug delivery to Drayton Valley and Drumheller and is live on the provincial Connect Care electronic system. Technicians at this center are required to perform sterile chemotherapy compounding on a frequent and regular basis.

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Current or recent oncology practice experience is required, along with sterile compounding and outpatient dispensing experience. Connect Care WIP and WAM experience will be viewed as a huge asset, as will current chemotherapy IV certification status and current authorized chemotherapy checking status.

6 months or more recent experience in a retail or outpatient Pharmacy setting. Membership and involvement in Pharmacy professional organization(s) such as CAPHO, PTSA, CAPT, ACP, CSHP and PEBC. Prior hospital experience with a variety of responsibilities. Preference will also be given to pharmacy technicians that have held positions involving problem solving and decision making. Patient focus is a must, including a willingness to interact with patients on a daily basis.
