Description
Reporting to the Manager of Child & family Day Treatment Program, the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Assistant provides day to day milieu support for children (ages 8-13) of all genders, from varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds and socio-economic status with complex mental health issues and associated developmental, cognitive and behavioural disorders. Service is provided in the context of patient and family-centered care and may include liaison and collaboration with relevant community agencies, including schools. The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Assistant is required to work collaboratively with other professionals who provide relevant information to inform decisions about client care which include activity selection, skill development and behavioral management. Responsibilities may include participation in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development and program evaluation as required, student education, and other related duties as required. The position requires the incumbent to work independently exercising sound judgement and decision-making skills based on previous experience and education while remaining within the scope of their professional practice. Decisions relate to interventions for clients presenting with complex mental health disorders. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection is required. The Psychosocial Rehab Assistant (PSRA) works with a multidisciplinary team assisting with therapeutic programming within an in-patient or day treatment Mental Health program. Under the guidance of Registered Nurses and Family Counselors, the Psychosocial Rehab Assistant also supports the implementation of individual and group program plans for children and adolescents admitted to the mental health care unit. Knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development, and therapeutic interventions is essential to optimal patient care. This specific PSRA opportunity involves offering therapeutic support to patients who may be holding in Emergency Department or who are placed 'off service' in medical units throughout the hospital.
Completion of diploma in Social Work or Child and Youth Care or completion of Bachelor's Degree in Psychology .
Must be registered with appropriate college as per education and role. 1-2 years' experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team. 1-2 years' experience working with children and adolescents with mental illness.
Completion of Brain Story Certification Preferred. Collaborative Problem Solving Training preferred. Suicide Risk Assessment training.
