Registered Nurse - DTC Surgical Suite Float Pool

As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the experienced peri-operative RN has focused skills in a variety of services that would include: Urology, General Surgery, Thoracic, Plastic/ Oral Maxiofacial Surgery, Neurosurgery and Orthopedics. Both scheduled (elective) and unscheduled (emergency) surgery is performed and the position requires the incumbent to do on-call shifts. The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care during the peri-operative patient experience following hospital policies and standards. It is expected that the incumbent can provide leadership in clinical practice through the management of patient care, and anticipate the needs of the patient including ensuring equipment and supplies are available for the required cases. The RN assumes responsibility and acts as a resource for staff skill development and support. As a leader and role model, the individual must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills and can contribute to quality initiatives and promote a professional work environment at all times.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Minimum of 5 years current general operating room experience in a high acuity OR Experience in a team leader role. Experience in a charge nurse/ leadership role, Charge Nurse duties will be expected. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Ability to demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable of lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20 lbs. of force. Ability to demonstrate communication skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Incumbents should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills. Computer skills including experience with electronic charting & Microsoft Outlook.

Peri-operative Certificate from an approved school of nursing Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification in Peri-operative Nursing Preference will be given to candidates with previous operating room experience who have taken a perioperative undergraduate course. At the discretion of the hiring manager may be considered for additional education in a perioperative nursing course.
