In alignment with co-design principles, the Edmonton Zone FAST (Facilitated Access to Specialized Treatment) Central Access and Triage RN will engage, plan, explore, develop, decide and initiate change to ensure seamless movement of patient referrals from receipt in the FAST Central Access and Triage office to notification of a specialist appointment. Under the supervision of the identified zone manager the Zone FAST Central Access and Triage RN works directly with other RN's and Administrative Support team members with the responsibility to screen and triage referrals, oversee the distribution of referrals to the most appropriate surgeons based on surgical wait times, and aCATS lists. The FAST Central Access and Triage RN’s work collaboratively with surgeons, MOA’s, Management, Nursing, Pre-Admission Clinics, Bed Management/Patient Flow, Surgical Inpatients, and Extended day wards to ensure efficient management of referral wait times and support operation processes associated with the process, The RN’s liaise closely with the Surgical Access and Surgical FAST teams by supporting and helping to manage and guide processes associated with unscheduled activity. They have ongoing involvement in program, department in Zone process and quality improvement initiatives, supporting ongoing assurance that booked surgical patients are appropriately ready, willing and able to have surgery. These positions are zone based with responsibilities within the associated zone leadership.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Minimum of three years related experience with a variety of surgical service specialties is required. Minimum of five years acute care nursing experience in an operating / procedural or surgical unit is required. Proven leadership and organizational skills in acute care setting. Demonstrate strong computer literacy, knowledge and skill with computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, Alberta Netcare and Connect Care) are required. Keyboarding minimum 50 words/minute.

Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Current Facilitated Access to Specialized Treatment (FAST) experience required. Familiarity with ACATS Strong process analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills with attention to detail. Excellent planning, organizational and time-management skills are necessary. Maintenance and understanding of statistical information associated with Access Database and e-Referral as related to FAST.
