An exciting opportunity exists to grow your skills and join a dynamic team within the new Arthur Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (AC). Opening in October 2024, the 1.4-billion-dollar Arthur Child is the second-largest Cancer Facility in North America and will be the leading healthcare facility, academic and research Centre providing cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. Reporting to the Unit Manager of Inpatient Oncology & Intensive Palliative Care the Registered Nurse (RN) will work on Unit 95/125 (formerly Unit 47 at the Foothills Medical Centre) which is 49 beds expanding over two floors, supporting patients that are under the care of Intensive Palliative Care /Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology teams. This is an amazing opportunity for the Registered Nurse to deliver state-of-the-art patient care throughout the care continuum. Using advanced competency skills, the RN will be responsible for treatment modalities such as epidurals, central line care and access, delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs, and radioactive iodine treatment within a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the team utilizing the Integrated Collaborative Practice model of CoACT. The RN will need to have strong clinical thinking skills, the ability to prioritize competing demands, good communication skills and work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure the development, implementation and ongoing administration of the client care plans. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Acute care experience within the past 2 years. (students with preceptorship or practicum experience in acute care will be considered equivalent). Must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching, assisting with patient transfers and other duties related to patient care. Palliative care experience (specific to dealing with change management and emotions of grief). Please note that although this role is based out of the Arthur Child Cancer Centre (AC), orientation and training may commence at Foothills Medical Centre OR Tom Baker Cancer Centre before the opening of AC.

Experience in pain management including advanced competencies such as PCAs and Epidurals. Charge training and experience. Experience working with the elements of CoACT and collaborative care. Palliative certification and/or experience. Experience with caring for patients undergoing radioactive iodine treatment. Oncology experience within the last 5 years. Experience with Central Venous Catheter. Experience in medical inpatient care within the past 2 years. Experience with Connect Care.
