Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to support children with life-limiting conditions and their families? Rotary Flames House (RFH), on the campus of Alberta Children’s Hospital, offers just that. RFH is the only free-standing pediatric hospice in Alberta and supports children with progressive life-threatening illnesses from birth to 18 years of life, and their families by providing comprehensive palliative care. Pediatric palliative care is an active and total approach to care, embracing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual elements. Pediatric palliative care focuses on the enhancement of the quality of life for the child and support for the family. As a Registered Nurse, you will be an active member of the RFH and Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) team. Within the context of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide providing direct care to children and families. You will utilize your palliative care expertise to provide ongoing assessment, care, education, and coordination of services to these children and families. Your practice will envelop the principles of family-centered care working within a team and independently. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Two or more years of previous experience, within the past 7 years working in a tertiary acute care setting (0.5 FTE or higher).
One year +, RN experience in the last 5 at RFH. One year RN experience in the last 5, in an acute pediatric (Peds) setting. One year +, in the last 7, working in Peds; palliative care, oncology, NICU, PICU, or intensive palliative care unit/palliative home care. Charge RN in the past 2 years. Experience with peds non/invasive ventilation. Experience working with HCAs. CNA specialty work (CpedN/CHPCN). How to Care, What to Say certificate. Committee member (QI etc.). LEAP course(s).
