Description
An exciting opportunity exists to develop as a Registered Nurse (RN)and work to your full scope of practice within a collaborative team at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC). We will be filling 8 of these positions Unit 54 General Medicine is a temporary 30 bed inpatient medical unit sharing space with surgery. These temporary surge beds are intended to help support increased patient demand at PLC. All RNs will be expected to fulfill the charge nurse role. You will be responsible for caring for medical inpatients (usually under the care of a Hospitalist) and providing excellent patient and family centered care supporting the acute needs of our patients. As a RN on Unit 54 General Medicine, you will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health professionals and support workers; fostering a unit culture that values and respects individual team members and their expertise. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team; decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills using sound clinical reasoning; patient advocacy and patient education skills; time management and prioritization skills; conflict resolution skills and promotion of a positive teamwork environment while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Recent experience in the Calgary Zone, regularly working on an acute care medicine/surgical inpatient unit within the last year. Must be skilled to the Charge Nurse role in an acute care setting or qualified for immediate Charge Nurse orientation. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) and It’s Your Move certification. Experience in Connect Care for adult acute care patients. Central Venous Access Device (CVAD) certification. N95 Fit Tested. Completion of Required Organizational Learning (ROLs - formerly Annual Compulsory Education). Demonstrated ability to work at full scope of practice, including long periods of standing/walking and occasional requirement to lift up to 50 pounds. Strong communication and leadership skills essential. Regular worked shifts in the Charge Nurse role for an acute care unit with the last year. 3 years of experience on an adult acute/inpatient medicine unit in the last 5 years. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or See The Person trained. Direct IV certified. Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) certification. Skilled in applying VAC dressings. Trained in applying and monitoring Pinel restraints.
