Description
Under the supervision of the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) Cell Imaging Facility Manager, the individual will provide technical support for both research and teaching in the Cell Imaging Facility. Duties will include assisting with or carrying out the preparation of biological samples for Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), operation of TEM and other microscopes in the Facility and acquisition of data. The individual will also perform general laboratory duties to ensure the smooth running of the CCI Cell Imaging Facility. Assistance with developing new TEM methods will also be required.
As a Research I, you will be working with research teams which are generating and disseminating new knowledge that assists with advancing the understanding of health disciplines and various health and medical concerns. Working under the guidance of the principal investigator, you will be responsible for preparing and submitting research documents, collecting and reviewing a variety of information related to the study, and monitoring study compliance. You will also assist with the recruitment of study participants and initiate consenting of study and/or trial participants and may complete lab work to support research activities.
Diploma or degree in a health or science related field. Registration with applicable professional association or college where required.
The candidate must possess microscopy experience, especially with confocal microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Individuals must have basic laboratory skills including cell culture, preparation of solutions and reagents, and performing immunofluorescence staining, in a variety of lab environments. Must be comfortable with various platforms of computers and have troubleshooting skills. Proficient with Windows OS, MS Office and computer hardware. Strong communication skills are required. Individuals will interact with students/scientists at all levels and will share responsibility for results. The individual must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
