Description
Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient services. PLC has over 600 inpatient beds. PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeastern British Columbia. PLC is a culturally diverse hospital that follows the patient and family centred care principals. Our Respiratory Services department services ICU, ER, Inpatient Units, Level II NICU. The PLC site is unique as it has the Chronic Ventilation Program - the only one in all of Alberta. Our site Respirologists specialize in Pulmonary Hypertension, Neuromuscular diseases amongst others. Respiratory Therapist I (RRT) will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff, and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centred care; and provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. All RRT positions at PLC are expected to be able to work in all areas that Respiratory Services clinically supports if required. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs. A demonstrated pattern of professional development; display of interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to manage competing priorities, be self-directed, exercise independent decision making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful, and safe work environment are required.
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification including expiration date. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs and sometimes exceeding 20 lbs.
