The Therapy Assistant works collaboratively with members of the Integrated Home Care program to support care for clients living in the community. The Therapy Assistant fulfills four key roles: Service Provider: Supports the client and assists the therapist with direct and indirect client care and non-client service provision, including functional, and goal oriented services to clients, families, groups, and communities. Collaborator: Works effectively with internal and external partners to optimize services. Life Long Learner: Enhances competency and service through reflective practice and continuous learning. Paraprofessional: Applies professionalism and ethics to the provision of person-centred care and participation in care teams.

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) from Heart and Stroke Foundation, current within the last 12 months. Recent experience in a community setting; 2 years in Home Care experience preferred. Minimum of two years relevant experience in a rehabilitation setting. There is also an expectation to be a mobile worker. This role requires travel within the city of Calgary including caring for clients in their homes or in the community. Possession of a valid drivers’ license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work related purposes is a requirement. You will be responsible to operate a laptop computer and mobile phone. Physically able to perform all duties and for manual handling (lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing and pulling) as a regular part of the job. For example: lifting of approximately 30 pounds in and out of a vehicle on a regular basis and carrying this weight up and down stairs throughout the day is common within this job. Learning resources and training are provided to safely perform work.

Displays professionalism, strong ethics, and problem solving to work effectively with internal and external members of the interdisciplinary team for patient-centered care. Strong organization, leadership and time management skills. Ability to take direction from multiple sources, set priorities and organize work assignments. Intermediate computer skills.
