This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the Edmonton Zone Virtual Home Hospital (EZVHH) team using innovative health care for complex problem solving. EZVHH uses the ever-evolving power of technology to enable patients to leave or avoid the hospital and receive quality care in the comforts of their own home. Currently, EZVHH has 45 Medicine Beds and 30 Surgical Beds; the team focuses on virtual adult acute med/surg inpatient care. To provide quality care the team of multidisciplinary professionals monitor patients virtually in collaboration with primary care providers, specialists, the Mobile Integrated Health team, and homecare while involving patients and caregivers in shared decision making as members of the care team. The EZVHH has unique pathways that help provide the necessary health care services to the ever-changing needs of Albertans: preventing emergency visits, hospital admissions and supporting early discharges home. As a key member of the EZVHH team, the Unit Clerk works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, high quality safe patient care. The Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication throughout the multidisciplinary team in addition to completing a variety of administrative tasks which include answering phones and directing calls, greeting, maintaining electronic health records and patient movement throughout the system, scheduling patient tests and/or treatments, in addition to medical equipment sanitization and inventory. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the frontline, supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the EZVHH. The position is a major asset to the smooth and efficient operation of EZVHH.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

3-5 years of recent experience in a medical and surgical environment, with a proven track record of excellent communication with patients and various care providers. Proficiency with computers, Connect Care and familiarity and comfort with use of Zoom. Must be able to tolerate long periods of sitting standing and walking, the ability to carry 15-25 lbs. of patient monitoring equipment through acute care sites.

Experience with applications such as RedCap, Genesys, Cloud Dx and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, & Excel).
