An exciting opportunity exists to work as a Unit Clerk (UC) within a collaborative team on a fast-paced inpatient unit at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC). There will be 2 positions that we will be filling for this opportunity. Unit 54 General Medicine/Surgery is a temporary 30 bed inpatient unit providing care for medicine and surgery inpatients. These temporary surge beds are intended to help support increased patient demand at PLC. You will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Prioritization and flexibility are key attributes of the successful candidate. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining of patient records and charts, as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. As a UC on Unit 54 General Medicine, you will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Health Care Aides, Physicians, Allied Health professionals and support workers: fostering a unit culture that values and respects individual team members and their expertise. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team; decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills using sound judgement; time management and prioritization skills; conflict resolution skills and promotion of a positive teamwork environment while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Recent experience with regular worked hours in an urban, acute care unit within the last year. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk program. Move Safe certification. Experience in Connect Care for adult acute care patients. Completion of Required Organizational Learning (ROLs - formerly Annual Compulsory Education). Demonstrated ability to work at full scope of practice, including occasional bending/twisting and pushing/pulling/heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds). Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills essential. Demonstrated ability to work productively and positively with a large multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated proficiency with various technology, including computers, Zebra and multi-function printer and fax machines, call bells, telephones, etc. Must be experienced with use of Microsoft Office software applications. 3 years of experience in an urban, acute care unit in the last 5 years. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or See The Person trained. Direct experience independently communicating with patients who demonstrate complex behaviours.
