Job Summary

The Ministry of Children & Family Development is responsible for delivering programs and services to support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth, young adults and their families across BC.

The Project Coordinator provides technical project/program management coordination functions for the development, evaluation, implementation, and modernization of the Ministry’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Program throughout the project management life cycle (i.e., initiation, planning, execution, control, and close-out). In addition, the Project Coordinator is directly accountable for assigned portions (e.g., sub-projects) of larger projects as an Emergency Management Unit team member.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma in project management or a related field and 1-year related experience*; OR
  • Certificate or coursework in project management or a related field and 2 years related experience*; OR
  • Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and 3 years related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


**Related experience may have been gained in a professional, community or volunteer setting and includes all of the following:

  • Developing/coordinating emergency management and/or business continuity projects.
  • Using project management principles and practices.
  • Tracking projects throughout the project life cycle and making recommendations to project leaders on revisions.
  • Researching policy issues and/or conducting policy analysis.
  • Developing internal and/or external guidance and/or standard operating procedures (e.g., could include “how to” documents for following regulations).
  • Writing information and/or decision notes for senior decision-makers.


Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Emergency management experience responding to natural and/or human-caused hazards.
  • Experience with Business Continuity Planning and/or Emergency Management Planning.
  • Experience working in an emergency operations centre or similar command and control environment.
  • Experience working with and engaging with Indigenous Nations communities and/or organizations.
  • Experience in the development of emergency drills and exercises.
