Job Summary

The Team
This team is tasked with overseeing and approving post-secondary early childhood education (ECE) programs and curriculum assessments for certification equivalency which has a significant impact on child care and families in BC. The team manages all operational policies and procedures to support its regulatory functions. Additionally, the Director collaborates closely with the team responsible for certification and investigations related to ECE practice. The Registry operates under the mandates of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act and the Child Care Licensing Regulation. The Role
This role oversees the recognition of post-secondary early childhood education programs, including the assessment and approval of both public and private institutions. The Director guides the Manager and staff on complex cases that may set precedents or attract significant public interest, impacting the institutions' economic positions. Additionally, the Director reviews all matters related to early childhood education programs and leads the development of operational policies and procedures for the Registry. The role also includes overseeing staff orientation and training programs and creating public-facing resources, such as the website and application forms.


Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Social Work, Social Sciences, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in the early care or learning sector
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in each of the following:
    • Supervising large teams, including management and entry level staff
    • Interpreting and applying legislation in complex situations
    • Identifying issues, preparing and providing high-level briefings, documents, and presentations to senior leadership
    • Managing complex and emergent client relationships and issues
    • Developing and implementing operational policies and procedures

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Working in a professional, regulatory role or setting, involving complex decision-making as a statutory decision-maker or in an equivalent role
  • Working in the BC Public Service
  • Working effectively, respectfully, and knowledgeably with Indigenous Peoples and communities
  • Working with Indigenous Peoples and communities
  • Developing and evaluating post-secondary competency-based curriculum
  • Teaching at a post-secondary institution and/or supervising in a post-secondary institution
  • Leading large projects or change management initiatives

Remote work is allowed. This position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement.
