Job Summary

The Team
The Salmon Arm Rapattack program is a dynamic group of 45 seasonal and full-time wildfire response staff. The program staff consists of full time officers, dispatchers and a mix of seasonal and full time fire crew staff. Our unique and highly motivated team supports provincial wildfire operations using specialized remote access capabilities and works throughout the province of BC.

The Role
As an Asset Management Assistant, you’ll manage key resources like vehicles, fire equipment, and facilities to ensure fire response staff are equipped with the tools critical to fire response. You’ll work closely with officers and crew staff in support of the Rapattack program. As this position directly supports fire response, there is a requirement for hard work and periods of long hours during fire season. This position is a vital part of protecting communities in BC and providing important public service.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 graduation; OR an equivalent combination of education and training may be considered;
    AND
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license


Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience working with forklift or skid steer.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have rappel experience.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have experience working with basic wildland firefighting equipment.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who have training and/or experience in contract and procurement management.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience in facilities, assets (including inventory management) or vehicle fleet management.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience creating and managing spreadsheets and working with standard computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook).


Provisos and Willingness Statements:

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
