BC DATA SERVICE - DIVISIONAL DESCRIPTION
The BC Data Service division (BCDS) is responsible for developing statistics about B.C. and provides technical tools and services to maximize data’s use and value for government and the broader public sector - while working closely with partners and clients to ensure that data is used in ways that support better government. Additionally, BCDS is responsible for implementing BC’s Anti-racism Data Act and is committed to advancing Indigenous data sovereignty.

Specifically, the division delivers several public and ministry-facing programs that support modernization of government, including: DataBC, Data Innovation Program, Data Science Partnerships, BC Stats, and Policy and Legislation.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
BC Stats is the central statistical agency of the Province of British Columbia and has the provincial government's largest concentration of statistical products, services, and expertise. The position may be required to work on research projects in a variety of subject areas, including:
• Demographic and social statistics, including monitoring, analysis, and reporting of demographic and social trends in B.C. and the rest of Canada.
• Economic, business, and labour statistics, including economic impact assessments and analysis of the small business and high technology sectors.

JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Demographic Analyst supports economic, statistical, and forecasting projects by developing and managing data, ensuring accuracy of computations and methodologies, conducting comprehensive economic and statistical analysis, and developing reports on results.

Job Requirements:

• A Master’s Degree in Economics or Statistics or closely related field such as commerce, population and demography studies, geography, sociology or mathematics, OR
• An equivalent combination of related experience, education and/or training may be considered.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in forecasting techniques, economic modelling and conducting economic and statistical analysis.
• Experience with computer applications including spreadsheets (MS Excel), databases (MS Access, SQL Server), programming languages (R), presentation (MS PowerPoint), and word-processing packages (MS Word).
• Experience in gathering, analyzing, evaluating and interpreting information from diverse sources.
• Experience in preparing and delivering written reports, management and executive briefings, and presentations to diverse audiences.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
• Experience in the use of open-source tools such as R and its related suite of products, Python, etc.
• Experience working with spatial data and using geocoding applications such as ArcGIS.
• Experience in the use, manipulation and reliability of large and complex databases.
• Experience in developing population/demographic estimates and projections, migration and immigration and other demographic forecasts for all regions with B.C. (e.g., municipalities, health districts, school districts) OR measuring inter-national/inter-provincial flow of goods and services, investments and business conditions OR Input-Output Modelling.
