Description
The Team
The Supply Services Branch is responsible for providing full-service inventory management and product distribution to ministries, Crown corporations and other government-funded organizations. The services include mail, scanning, office products, protocol items, printing, publishing, surplus asset disposal, electronic media destruction, warehousing, and supply chain services for the province. Supply Services seeks to create capacity for innovation and modernization, make it easier to work with the existing lines of business, the B.C government.
Within Supply Services is BC Mail Plus. We provide mail pick-up, delivery and fulfillment services including document design, variable data printing, inserting and distribution planning services. BC Mail Plus also provides access to discount Courier accounts, Document scanning, ID card production and Employee Household relocation services. BC Mail Plus also has an area called Mail, Payment and Document Processing (MPDP) which provides remittance processing, imaging, data capture/keying, a return mail service and records management.
The MPDP IT team, which this position is part of, has developers, Business Analysts, a Tester, and an operations team.
The Role
This position works onsite at the Vancouver Island Tech Park and manages a small number of physical and virtual servers in the Tech Park and within the Government’s server centers. The Server Administrator works with the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) to ensure the servers are patched and maintained, installs/configures hardware and software, investigates possible threats, supports our annual audit, and researches and evaluates new technology solutions. Although a small team, the impact is considerable with approximately $8Billion dollars going through our servers annually. This position is key to our day-to-day operations, onboarding new clients and projects as well.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- University degree in computing science and four (4) years of overall related experience with a minimum of two (2) years in each category or a Diploma in an IT related field and five (5) years overall experience with a minimum of two (2) years in each category.
- Technical support experience with all: Windows 2008/2016/2022 Server, IIS, Enterprise storage, VMWARE and Microsoft Networking protocols;
- Experience with scripting languages;
- Experience working with automation;
- Experience in leading small teams;
- Experience with backup and recovery of disaster recovery planning;
- Experience working with patch management on servers;
- Experience mitigating vulnerability;
- Experience leading/supporting migrations on various Servers; and
- Experience working with databases and SQL servers;
Preferences:
- Masters in Computer Science or related field;
- Those with more than 10 years related experience;
- Five (5) years’ experience directly supporting an operational IT team;
- Experience with versioning tools;
- Experience with Active Directory, Network Access, and Security;
- Experience with leading IT audits; and
- Experience working with firewall rules.
