Job Summary


The Team:
The North Island Central Coast District has 30 staff, including the Tenure’s Team, which is a close-knit group of five professionals who work together to manage diverse forest and natural resource values across a vast and unique area, including the Great Bear Rainforest. This well-established team has solid guidance and leadership and is known for their strong work ethic, dedication to client service, and ability to provide practical solutions while maintaining a positive and fun work culture. They collaborate closely with other units, such as the Geomatics, First Nations, and Field teams, playing a crucial role in supporting the economic and environmental success for our North Island community.

The Role:
As a Licensed Authorizations Officer, you will manage all aspects of forest tenures, including issuing cutting and salvage permits, special use permits, free use permits, and reviewing cut control, while collaborating with clients from Tree Farm Licences, Forest Licences, Woodlot, Community Forest, and First Nations. Your work directly supports a thriving North Island, contributing to both the economic and environmental well-being of the community. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC. Applicants currently registered with FPBC as an ASFIT or FIT (or immediately eligible for registration) may be considered for this position at the Licensed Science Officer 1A level. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Degree in the natural resource field, or equivalent, as recognized by FPBC.
  • Related and recent (within the last three (3) years) experience working in natural resource management.
  • Recent (within the last three (3) years) experience engaging with First Nations and/or stakeholders.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
  • Willingness to conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

About this Position:
There are currently two (2) permanent, full time positions available in Port McNeill.
This location receives a bi-weekly isolation allowance.
Flexible work options are available; each position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Port McNeill.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
