Job Summary

The Team

The Provincial Stewardship Strategies and Planning Branch (PSSP) is a dedicated team of experts committed to advancing land use planning and resource stewardship in British Columbia. This established group specializes in navigating the complexities of land use planning, bringing invaluable insights and leadership to the table as they strive to modernize policies and weave together resource management frameworks with finesse. Their collaborative efforts with First Nations, stakeholders, and regional teams address planning challenges, ensuring that policies are well-aligned and effectively communicated.

The Role

Joining the PSSP team presents a unique and impactful opportunity. You’ll have the chance to work with diverse groups to craft and refine policies while playing a vital role in advancing reconciliation and stewardship initiatives across BC. Your contributions will help shape the future of land use planning, making a meaningful difference in conservation and resource management, and fostering collaborative solutions across sectors.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
• Master’s Degree in planning, natural resource management, or a related discipline (e.g., forestry, agrology, etc.) and 3 years’ recent (within the past 4 years), related experience; OR,
• Bachelor’s Degree in planning, natural resource management, or a related discipline (e.g., forestry, agrology, etc.) and 5 years’ recent (within the past 6 years), related experience, AND
• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e., Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists). Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the appropriate BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.

Recent, related experience must include:
• Providing expert advice, guidance and leadership regarding natural resource management or land use-related policies, standards and methodologies to senior executives (e.g., Minister, Deputy Minister or equivalent).
• Leading consultations and policy reviews with internal and external partners/specialists to gather input on complex natural resource management or planning issues; and to recommend regulatory changes consistent with government priorities.
• Preparing reports and documents to support decision-making (e.g., Cabinet Submissions, position papers, proposals and reports).

Preference may be given to candidates with recent, related experience in one or more of the following:
• Engaging and collaborating with First Nations to address natural resource land use management-related issues.
• Experience leading land use planning initiatives.
• Experience developing natural resource-related policies
